Flu outbreak hits Berlin Nursing Home
By Dolores E. Pike
The Berlin Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center is currently under quarantine until further notice according to Jeannine Hooper, director of Nursing. The quarantine was instituted according to state guidelines as of noontime on Friday and will continue in effect until 72 hours after the last incidence has been reported. Approximately 10 percent of residents and/or staff have experienced flu like symptoms necessitating the closing of the communal areas such as the dining room and activities center. For anyone wishing to visit family or friends at the nursing home and/or rehabilitation center they may do so but it is requested that they be free of any colds or flu-like symptoms. It is also suggested that they take the basic precautions such as washing their hands thoroughly and availing themselves of the hand sanitizer gel provided at the center.
