Information Letter  G. Jeffrey (Jeff) Knepper

Hello. My name is Jeff Knepper and I am running for a seat on the Ocean Pines Association Board of Directors. I was appointed by the Board in February, 2014 to fill out the term of former Director, Dan Stachurski. My wife, Kimberly, and I have owned property in Ocean Pines since 2000, and moved to Colonial Village in 2006. We resided in Florida for a brief time from late 2008 until mid 2011, but have been full time residents here ever since. Ocean Pines is our home.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Ohio in 1944 and lived my early life there. My mom and dad were typical parents of the time. My dad was a mechanical engineer and owned his own business. My mom was an artist and stay-at-home mom As a teenager, I learned business operating principles working for my dad and I learned teamwork by being a member of several sailing crews racing on Lake Erie, the finger lakes of NY, and the TVA lakes of Tennessee.

My parents instilled in me the values of honesty, hard work, and empathy and these have served me well over the years. I have managed groups of people ranging in size from 15 to 450 all with excellent operational and financial results, high morale, and very low turnover. I am considered by people who know me to be an expert in the application of technology to business operations, business risk management, and the ethical part of business operations like the Code of Conduct program for Intel IT.

I am a fiscal conservative. That means that I believe our money must be spent wisely on the things that matter to all of us and that assessments should be as low as is consistent with that principle. If we create something, it should be of high quality to begin with and should be operated and maintained prudently. By doing these things, we will get the highest possible return on our investments and the longest useful life from them.

Well-run businesses operate in organized ways, and OPA must also. I intend to bring increased business-like organization to OPA and have already started that effort. I am a member of the only Board in the history of OPA to reduce assessments and I was one of the leaders in the effort to get that done.

Issues change from time-to-time, but the top ones I see now for OPA are: Golf course operations - (do it right or get someone who can), Information systems - (we must have new ones), Yacht club performance - (a big investment, we must operate it well). The next three issues are: Drainage - (we are at sea level, and need to stay on top of this), Country Club future - (what do we do with it?) - OPA compliance to its own rules - (this will help us run better & more effectively). The final three are: Overall amenity performance - (we must keep our eye on the ball), Beach club (how do we make it better?), Pools - (they are getting old), and Geese - (many of us love them, but we have to keep our members and them safe).

I look forward to serving all the members of OPA and I ask for your vote to continue doing so.

G. Jeffrey (Jeff) Knepper

General Manager, Information Technology Risk Management

Intel Corporation (Retired)

G. Jeffrey (Jeff) Knepper is the retired General Manager of the Information Technology Risk Management group at Intel Corporation. In addition to co-leading IT itself for a time, his responsibilities included the worldwide management of a number of loosely-related groups within the overall umbrella of Risk Management. These included Corporate Information Security, IT Risk Management, IT Strategic Procurement, and the IT Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance units. (Sarbanes-Oxley is a set of federal financial disclosure rules designed to allow investors in public companies to make better informed decisions when investing their money).

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1944, Knepper received his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor Degrees from Ohio State University and, after graduation in 1970, joined the Tax Division of the public accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co.. This was followed over the years by increasingly responsible positions at other public accounting firms including J. K. Lasser & Co.; Touche Ross & Co.; and finally Deloitte & Touche, where he was the Worldwide Director of Tax Technology. After 21 years in public accounting, Knepper joined Intel Corporation as the Co-Director of its Information Systems Group in early 1992.

Knepper was widely recognized within Intel and the public accounting where he worked as a very capable manager of extremely high performing groups. He was also recognized by Intel and its large technology supplier community as an expert in creative “deal design”, software licensing, and supplier management. In addition, he was a leader in the implementation of Intel IT’s ethical Code of Conduct, and a frequent instructor on topics related to that and to Intel’s management techniques, in general. He also taught courses in the application of technology to business situations.

Before Intel, Knepper worked for 21 years with several Public Accounting Firms, ending up at Deloitte & Touche. He always worked in the Tax Division of the Firms and for the last ten years was responsible for the worldwide application of technology to the Tax Division of Deloitte.

Knepper is licensed to practice law by the State of Ohio and is a member in good standing of the Ohio Bar. He belongs to both the American and Ohio Bar Associations. He is one of the founders of the internationally-based Microcomputer Managers Association, and a charter member of the Citizens’ Academy of the Sacramento, California office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Knepper has owned property in Ocean Pines continuously since 2000 and has lived here full time (with a several year absence while living in Florida) since 2006. He was a member of the General Manager’s Contract Review Group and has attended almost all OPA Board meetings, either in person or by internet, since 2006. He was appointed to the Ocean Pines Association Board of Directors in February, 2014 and serves on it today.

Knepper is well-organized and brings that organization to whatever he does. He listens well and takes that learning into account when crafting or supporting a course of action.

He is married to Kim Knepper and has four adult children living in California, Florida, Georgia, and Maryland.
