Description: Local Boy Scouts of America Troop visits Battleship New Jersey on 10/16/2004.
The Scouts and adult leadership of Boy Scout Troop 261 spent the night of October 16th on the Battleship New Jersey (BB 62). The decommissioned ship is docked as a historical attraction on the riverfront at Camden, New Jersey. The Scouts had a chance to see how life was for enlisted personal while the ship was in service between 1943 and 1992, during which time it earned nineteen battle stars. A great tour of the ship was given by one of the retired military personal who serve as docents.
Life Scout John Wist is the Senior Patrol Leader of the troop. Joe Schanno is the Scoutmaster. The troop has plans for hiking on the Hudson River Palisades across from the Bronx, NY in November, camping near Williamsburg, V.A. in December and a ski trip in January. Any boy interested in joining the troop, or for that matter anyone interested in the troop, can call Joe Schanno at (o) 410-208-0651 or (h) 410-208-1685.
