Description: Mike Kitchen of Maryland Geese Control begins first day on the job at Ocean Pines. Mike brought three Border Collies. One was a puppy. Mike spend one hour on the South Gate Pond, with one collie in a kayak, chasing hundreds of birds back and forth. No birds were on the grass. Mike also mentioned it was a tough pond to control due to the peninsula where the Veterans Memorial is located. He also said having the dogs work the resident barnyard geese, the only ones on the grass, was somewhat problematic. Many birds ended up in the pond at Southgate Grille. Others returned after Mike left.
Notice Mike in his kayak (center area highlighted) some 50 yards or more away from the birds as they are spooked by the approaching kayak. These are migratory birds and, unlike the problem resident Canada geese, they spook very easily.
