Description: The United States Flag Code provides that along with the President, the Governor of a State, Territory, or Possession may order the U.S.Flag flown at Half/Mast at certain times. One of those times is, when a member of our Armed Forces who is a resident of our State is killed in a combat zone.
In the past year, (to date) 14 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen from Our State have made the Supreme Sacrifice in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since the first MD casualty in Jan. 2002, the total is 112.
The Flag Masters of Ocean Pines formed themselves as a group to ensure that our Flags, of which there are 19, are properly lowered and raised as ordered, also to project the strong patriotism of the residents of Ocean Pines.
All the members of The Flag Masters have previously served their Country and continue to do so. Among them are members of the O.P.V.F.D., W.C. Veterans Memorial Committee, Marine Corps League, VFW and American Leigon.
You will see them out there performing their duty, in any kind weather, at sunrise and sundown. When you do, please throw them a salute, or a thumbs up, or give a tute of the horn.
