Ocean Pines received donation of Two AEDs. automated external defibrillators-
The Family of David Kretschmar of Ocean Pines asked the Ocean Pines Association to accept a personal donation of $3,000 to purchase two automated external defibrillators or AEDs. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder and basic life support level CPR classes. The generous donation allows for an AED device to be installed at the Community Center and also one installed at the Sports Core Pool. The donation will also cover the associated equipment necessary such as the extra pads, training pads, children pads, and more. The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department will be training staff to properly use the AED. Gail Kretschmar, his wife, said, "The donation is made in honor of my husband, David Kretschmar and in honor of all the volunteer Firemen and Women in our community."
