Description: Ocean Pines racquet players participate in Rally for the Cure Ocean Pines platform tennis, tennis and pickleball all combined their efforts by participating in the Rally for the Cure which raises money towards the fight against breast cancer. This coordinated activity was held at the Manklin Meadows Racquet Complex and over one hundred people took part in the fundraiser. Leaders of the Rally included Linda Lee, June Freeman, Frank Creamer and tennis pro Ron Kerschner. Over $2,000.00 was raised for the cure.
Originally the matches were set for Friday of June 14th but the unrelenting rain caused the Rally to be rescheduled the following day. The Saturday weather was hot, humid and 84 degrees but this did not deter the players who filled the tennis, platform tennis and pickleball courts. The participants played from 9 to 11:30AM and after the luncheon many return to try out a different racquet sport.
Prizes were donated by Komen, Wockenfuss Candy Company in West Ocean City, and Ocean Pines Park and Recreation. Alex Fraschetti, owner of Osteria Fraschetti Restaurant and J And J Pizzeria located in West Ocean City, donated pizzas for the luncheon. Lunch also included chicken, various salads, fruit, and desserts.
This was the second annual event and more charitable events are being planned for the future.
