I also attended that gathering. Cost to OPA of "free food" I consumed: probably about $3.00. Cost of beverages purchased from the bar, that I wouldn't have had if the meeting wasn't held there, about $10. Disappointment: Wasn't aware the "Saturday Nite Fights" were taking place. It's my understanding that the meeting was held there, in the first place, because the Country Club, where the Golfies usually hold their meetings, was rented. Evidently, money was being made at both locations. If more Board members were willing to take on all comers at the bar, I'll bet we could pack the place. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: While the altercation may prove interesting to some, it does not particularly interest me, other than from a news (it happened) standpoint. If anyone directly involved wants to put names on people, they can do so. I choose to report from my sources what I have reported. As for the free food for the Golf Governor's social event, that is an interesting issue. Why should any group get free food at the Yacht Club? Who decides who receives free food? Is there any policy or limitation? And as you suggest, one must ask how much of our average $150,000 loss at the Yacht Club is due to providing free food and/or drinks to individuals or groups. I was told by a knowledgeable source that the New Year's celebration (I think that was the affair, but the specific affair of of no consequence) was reported as sold out and potential paying customers were told they could not obtain reservations, but 20% or so of those attending were "comps." |
