one of the men came over to our table at the other end of the floor and said to Marty " Can I speak to you?" Marty said sure and got up and walked toward him with his hand extended. At that point, the man reportedly said " I'm not sure you would want to shake my hand since I want to ask you why you are %#&* up Ocean Pines" At that point, I guess Marty turned away from him ( I wasn't watching) and the man put his hand on Marty's shoulder and Marty told him to remove it. Several members of the golf community who were watching later came over to say that while they didn't agree with Marty's position on golf they thought the individual's actions were inexcusable. I certainly have my disagreements with Marty and admit that frustration at times causes me to say things that I regret later but this is childish behaviour and should have no place in adult interaction. It was good to hear that common sense prevailed among some of the other golfers. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Since my wife and I were the "guests" mentioned in your original posting I suppose that I can fill in the details. Marty Clarke and I with our wives went to the club for an afternoon Bloody Mary on Saturday. The Golf Group was having a meeting over in the corner with speakers, including the new pro. After it broke up and the group was having some food and drinks, one of the men came over to our table at the other end of the floor and said to Marty " Can I speak to you?" Marty said sure and got up and walked toward him with his hand extended. They also identified him as Robert? Reifsnyder. We were also told by the club management that the golf group was there because both the Country Club and the upstairs were being used for catered functuons at the time. And that's the story. I'll reserve my comments for a later posting---and there will be one. |
