Ed, I spoke with the head of the zoning department. They are not going to do anything about the case. My impression of their attitude -- the county has many more important things to do than worry about going to court and requesting access to see if those vehicles are registered.
I also have the feeling the county wants no involvement on these issues in Ocean Pines. In other words -- the county is saying you can have as many covered vehicles on your property as you can fit, junk or not junk, so long as you throw a tarp over each one. Or maybe one could park 6 vehicles on a property and cover them with one giant orange tarp. So, as it turns out the county law on this issue is absolutely useless..... unless we hear something other from Jim Bunting after he speaks with the county attorney. I'll keep you posted. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm a 7 year resident of OP and aside from an occasional poster I guess one could label me a "lurker" on this forum. But now there is an issue I'm compelled to speak out about. My home is on Battersea road and for the 7 years I've lived here I've had to look at two covered vehicles that a neighbor owns. Neither vehicle has moved in those years and on at least on one the tires are flat. Another neighbor informs me the vehicles have set there for 14 years or so. Further down Battersea there are four uncovered vehicles in a driveway that also are untagged and appear to have been in the same position for a long time. Having just returned from a winter in Florida, good timing yes ?, I decided it was past time to discuss the situation with the owner of these vehicles. Suffice to say the conversation was not fruitful. I contacted the Compliance department, who were very professional and courteous BTW, and despite expressing empathy for the situation told me their hands are tied as the bylaws were revised sometime ago to allow untagged, unregistered, uninsured vehicles to sit and rust in driveways for eternity I suppose, obviously I added that last part. These vehicles are eyesores.....covered of not !! Besides the abandoned homes, yards that are not maintained these situations just lower all of our property values and the quality of life in the Pines. Not knowing where to turn I simply decided to raise the issue on this forum. If we are to have compliance regulations should not we have regulations that work to the betterment of our community !! Thanks for listening, at least for now I feel a little better ! |
