CPC said they need this study to complete the plan. If so then get it done is my position.
CPC said? Ted, if you believe the CPC now, or in the past, or any group up in Salisbury can tell the future, I have a bridge to sell you. Looking at your example, let's just suppose the Salisbury group comes back and say OPA will not need a golf course in 10 years. Do you actually believe any board is going to act on that and not spend whatever it takes to maintain our golf course. The golf course is not going away without some sort of referendum and the odds of one passing are slim and none. The point I'm trying to make is all these well intentioned, great sounding ideas are no more than political theater associated with a bureaucracy. Carol Terry ran that committee for years with her husband as president and a great deal of help from someone at the county. The committee achieved nothing. Now Salisbury University is gonna save us? No way. Just another $14,000 down the sewer. Reminds me of politicians passing gun control laws to show they are trying to control crime in what is no more than political theater. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, My position is you need to have a plan or vision. CPC said they need this study to complete the plan. If so then get it done is my position. The plan is to look ahead as to communiy needs, demographics and trends. For instance, do we see having a golf course in 10 years? If so the approach to upgrading facilities changes. If the plans says no golf course in a decade then you patch and paint. If you intend to continue golf then a more serious upgrade or replacement of say the cart barn may need to take place. To me getting an improved vision of the community looking a decade out is critical to deciding the steps you take over the next five years. Why not do it now rather than invest a ton of money and then change course? Ted |
