Jack,
We ate there several years ago for our anniversary. Our experience parallels yours. I think they had a three-course price fixe special the night we were there that was excellent with special treats in between courses. The price was in line with most restaurants in the area that are billed a fine dining. Time to go back. But, if I were driving down rt 13 and saw the place (not knowing) I would probably keep going! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Andrea and I have heard about Restaurant 213 for many years but for some reason never made the trip to Fruitland to actually dine at this culinary delight. An invitation by friends Tom & Mary Yenney, who were celebrating their anniversary, to join them changed all that. Wow!! we ended up enjoying one of the top dining experiences of all time. In Fruitland, go figure. ![]() Restaurant 213 is a small, cozy restaurant with beautifully set tables and a modern decorating flair. There is a wow factor just entering the front door. No bar available but an extensive and impressive wine list [so I was told I am not going to go through an extensive review of the menu but our groups lobster, rack of lamb, steak and scallop entree's were superb with special palette cleansers between courses of items like cream of crab soup, chilled crab salad. Small surprises were seen throughout the meal such as the complimentary champagne sent out by the Chef, mushroom potatoes which were baked potatoes carved into a mushroom shape and a Beefeaters Gin served with a perfectly round ice cube the size of a golf ball that had been formed in a balloon. Andreas soufflé dessert had to be ordered with her entrée so it could be served at exactly the right time following her meal so the vanilla cream could be inserted at the table before the soufflé cooled and collapsed. The dinner ware itself is impressive and might be what one would expect to see at the White House. Real individual towels in the rest rooms. OK, you get the idea but here is why this place and its fare is so special. Executive Chef Jim Hughes was the family chef to President Reagan while at the White House. Dining at Restaurant 213 gives one an idea of what it must be like to be at a State dinner in that special place. Truly special. Restaurant 213 is truly a unique dining experience and, no, I have no idea why it is located in Fruitland. |
