In my opinion, the issue is with OPA people......drive around OPA, yards un-keep, houses in disrepair, garbage cans in front of residences,
I agree. However, this is again a matter of OPA management.... in addition to the owners. automobiles, boats, jet skis, trailers parked in front of houses Where should the autos be parked? Boats and jet skis and some trailers are allowed under the DR Guidelines. I don't think they should be, but that is just one man's opinion. The board, in its infinite wisdom, has decided this is a boating community and thus trailered boats of any size can be parked in driveways on OP's tiny lots. The failure to enforce the DRs is one of the greatest failures of management of OPA over time. OPA needs enforcement of the DRs for the kind of things that harm property values. Unfortunately a call to enforce DRs could very well result in nitpicking of trivial items that may be technical violations but not violations that diminish property values. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: "the problem with the Yacht Club is OPA management." I've thought about this, and the comments that OPA is just a housing development, and I believe both are accurate. OPA does have nice amenities, open to both OPA & public; the Racquet facility is one of the nicest in the area, our pools are clean, well-staffed, and offer a variety of programs in addition to swim time, year round thanks to the Sports Core facility. The golf course is one of the more challenging in the resort area, can't understand why there isn't more play. In my opinion, the issue is with OPA people......drive around OPA, yards un-keep, houses in disrepair, garbage cans in front of residences, automobiles, boats, jet skis, trailers parked in front of houses; the common green area in the middle of the Parkway is driven on by residents, contractors with total disregard for the green space. The amount of litter is disgusting, only to be trumped by the disgusting amount of dog waste being left by owners. If the average OPA owner doesn't take pride in our 'housing development', how do we expect a volunteer BOD, which can change every 12 months, to manage and run an $11M business? Why should the OPA BOD be held accountable to any strategic plan, if one wee to exist; when a % of OPA residents show no interest in maintaining the resort-style community? I realize this % of non-caring OPA residents is small, yet, it's perception. If just OP Forum members would continue to strive to improve OPA, to attempt to regain pride in our facilities, to hold our elected officials accountable and demand positive results...... our family, we are Worcester County natives, we choose to live here, let's try to focus on the attributes OPA has. |
