I believe it’s a Black Walnut tree nut Joe. Was never used. I may still have some residual stains husking the coverings off, beating the nuts with a hammer on a hickory stump
you’re right that brings back memories that stain was hard to remove from your hands. Guess we were born to early we should have waited until latex gloves were available |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I believe it’s a Black Walnut tree nut Joe. Was never used. I may still have some residual stains husking the coverings off, beating the nuts with a hammer on a hickory stump, and then using a nutpick to gouge out the meat for holiday walnut and applesauce cakes.
