Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Douty Public Comments Msg# 1062137

Other than Directors Tuttle and Janasek telling me the board has no jurisdiction (following Wednesday nights board meeting) I have received no response.
Tuttle and Janasek both told you they had no "jurisdiction" over a committee member who directed obscene language at you just after a board meeting? Was this committee member also a board member for a short time? Anyway, I'm not sure you used your public comments time wisely. Your five minutes were about up when you brought up OPA firing you and you currently have a lawsuit pending in Snow Hill on that. Did you really expect the board to respond to anything related to that lawsuit? Then, after five minutes were up, you tried to bring up the issue of an individual who you say addressed you with obscene language. Frankly, I do recall you telling me of the incident while I was speaking with someone else just outside the meeting room.... what is now the Foltz room as I recall. I did not hear the comments you told me about and do not recall the name you mentioned with certainty. Do you recall the name/s of anyone who actually heard the obscene comments directed at you. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Indeed Director Janasek honored his commitment. We had a civil and respectful short conversation following the meeting. My intent/attempt was to ask the board why they have chosen not to respond to the confrontation that occurred immediately following the August 31 board meeting by a board appointed advisory committee member. That OPA official repeatedly directed obscene language and an obscene gesture at me totally unprovoked. You will recall I was completely caught off guard and shocked at the behavior directed at me by this individual. I reported the matter to the board within an hour of the being verbally accosted by this individual. I asked if this type of behavior by a volunteer representative of OPA is ok? Yes I have challenged the conduct/decisions of the board...does that make this behavior ok? You have challenged the Board on many occasions...would you be ok if a representative of the association demonstrated this type of conduct towards you? Other than Directors Tuttle and Janasek telling me the board has no jurisdiction (following Wednesday nights board meeting) I have received no response. I am not sure I agree given section 10.03 of the OPA bylaws which state: "All members serve at the pleasure of the Board and may be removed by the Board, with or without cause, at any time". Just another example of selective choices to ignore the bylaws when convenient. For the record I have not asked that this individual be removed....but they absolutely serve under the jurisdiction of the board. Incidentally I have heard absolutely nothing as reported from the recent "independent" compensation study that is inconsistent with what I reported in my evaluation. I guess one can never be a prophet in their own land. |
