The latest analysis shows that nuclear power has an outstanding record.
But those nuclear problems are always big news. Yet the oil railcar fires, natural gas explosions, coal mining accidents etc. generally have worse records. Its a seldom told comparison. Its certainly true that the public have very long memories of those nuclear accidents. And they tend to forget all those less dramatic kinds of accidents. World-wide stats show: << 1.4 million annual fatalities, world wide from traffic accidents, << 2.3 million annually die from work-related accidents, << 4.2 million annually die from air pollution. << between 170,000 and 230,000 people were killed from 1975 collapse of the Banqiao hydro-electric dam in China. << about 200 deaths were related to nuclear radiation, during the entire history of the nuclear power industry. Three Mile Island accident was in 1979. more than 40 yrs ago, Chernobyl was 1986, and Fukushima, 2011 Report titled: It Sounds Crazy, But Fukushima, Chernobyl, And Three Mile Island Show Why Nuclear Is Inherently Safe Quote: "Radiation from Chernobyl will kill, at most, 200 people, while the radiation from Fukushima and Three Mile Island will kill zero people." |
