I in no way meant to slight Sharyn. I was talking with Sharyn yesterday while visiting the "Wall That Heals" and we were both reminiscing about the early years of the development of the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines (I volunteered to serve with and on the foundation's board for about three years in its early days). During our conversation I mentioned to her I felt Roseanne was looking down now at the memorial with immense pride. Sharyn told me that around the year 2000 she and Roseanne believed something was needed in Worcester County to honor its veterans who served our country. so the two of them visited a Wicomico Veterans Memorial in Salisbury. Seeing it greatly inspired them to start to work on building a memorial to honor Worcester County's veterans. She said neither she nor Roseanne had any idea that their efforts would grow into being the large, beautiful, and impactful memorial it is today. Sharyn is particularly proud, as she should be, of the foundation's successful outreach program to elementary schools in the region. It has resulted in many schools busing their fifth graders each year to the memorial for a day to learn about the stories and sacrifices of our military men and women from the foundation's volunteers. How grateful we all should be for the efforts and devotion of these two women. Gene |
