| Male and female stock analyst hired out of MBA school at age 24, both paid $60,000. Female leaves for 3 years to raise a child and now wishes to return to her previous stock analyst job. At this point the male is earning $70,000 with 3 more years of experience. The company is going to hire her back at something less than $70,000. More like the wage being paid to younger analysts with only 1 year of experience. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In a position with an organization of considerable size that I was part of for 30 years I can recall no woman who took a temporary leave, actually step out of the workforce for several years and then return. I believe the frequency of this justification for lower wages is another cop out, on practice it really is pretty rare. |
