Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Disgraceful Vote on Lakernick Msg# 1153115

I emailed the following to the Board of Directors. If I receive any answers, I will post them here.
Directors: The Ocean Pines Board of Directors has recommended that someone who wants to become a board member volunteer to serve on an advisory committee in order to learn more about how OPA operates. I think that such service would be valuable experience for a potential board member. A person who has run for the Ocean Pines Board twice in the past (and will probably run in the future) recently volunteered for one of the two available seats on our Strategic Planning Committee. He has been denied the opportunity to serve, with no explanation or discussion of this rejection. Most committee applicants are approved unanimously. In some meetings, the list of applicants is read, and they are all approved in a mass vote. As a member of this community, I think that the BOD at least owes the above applicant, and the community, an explanation of why the application was rejected, and what the applicant needs to do before the next meeting in order to become a committee member. I'm trying to understand the apparent logical disconnect in the first two paragraphs. I hope I'm wrong, but it appears that those voting against approval for the committee appointment would not want this person to be elected to the board. Thank you in advance for your response. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Disgraceful Vote on Lakernick commentary by Joe Reynolds Ocean Pines Association member Stuart Lakernick applied to become a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. His desire to serve was rejected during the February 23rd board meeting on a disgraceful 3-2 vote. Doug Parks and Rick Farr voted to approve Lakernick's appointment. Frank Daly and Josette Wheatley voted against. Looking at the video of the meeting, we cannot be sure who the third vote against was, despite Horn saying the vote was 3-2 against. It appears Horn did not vote and Perrone voted against - but again, the video is not definitive. Regardless, Amy Peck and Collette Horn apparently did not vote. Had they voted for Lakernick, he would have been appointed to the committee. Amy Peck is the liaison to the committee. Those voting against Lakernick can say it was not a revenge vote until the cows come home. No one will believe them. Lakernick and Farr ran more or less as a team in the last board election. Farr prevailed in court when his candidacy was rejected. Lakernick lost rather narrowly to Frank Daly, who voted not to appoint an eligible association member to the committee. You can bet this vote was determined prior to the meeting. The vote against Lakernick was disgraceful. More to come on this. |
