For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Give me a break. Banning someone from a bar is not “law enforcement.” Watch this: ”Sir, I’m very sorry, but we can no longer permit you to come to out restaurant due to several incidents involving unruly and disruptive behavior.. If you do come in, you will be refused service and asked to leave. If you refuse to leave, we will be forced to call the authorities.” That easy. I‘ve bartended for like 13 years, this stuff happens all the time. The guy has had multiple incidents in literally the same bar. It is beyond irresponsible to not take some kind of corrective action. Further, given these accumulated red flags, there’s the consideration that if Tough Guy escalates next time and actually lays his Tough Guy hands on someone, someone is getting sued. If people have an issue with the Board’s authority in matters like this, I completely get it. If the Board wants to get around this, they can probably tell Mr. Ortt that they don’t want Tough Guy served alcohol anymore. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a start. I’m a little confused as to why people are treating someone being banned from a bar like it’s some kind of seismic event. It’s not. Not for nothing, but people might remember a few years back when Tough Guy went nuts at tiki because they made last call. It was really bad… and nothing was done, of course. One last thing: if nothing is done here, it basically opens the door for anyone else to engage in the sane kind of behavior at the YC because, well, if Tough Guy can do it and suffer no consequences, why can’t anyone else? |
