Director Steve Jacobs spoke about the Dropbox at the May 20th Board meeting when this new contract was approved by the board majority. Mr. Jacobs had spoken to the prior local contractor who reported that 30-40% of the ballots were received from the Dropbox. The Committee and the Board majority seemed determined to phase out the Dropbox and until this morning's announcement, the Dropbox was only going to be available from August 5-8. I'm pleased they are making it available now; however it doesn't help part time homeowners unless they get their ballot and are planning to come to Ocean Pines before August 8.
It's upsetting that the Committee and Stuart Lakernick (who has his ballot) were not on top of this. Previously the committee reported that the ballots were being mailed out in batches. Was the first batch mailed 7/18? When was the last batch? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The OPA "Election Issue" of the OPA Report is now in the mailboxes of most association members. It is called the "Election Issue" because it contains all the introductory statements and answers to three questions posed by the Elections Committee. This is likely the same information mailed to every eligible voter with the ballot packages finally arriving via the USPS. Several pages in the report contain red boxes with the following text: "VOTE AUGUST 8 BY 4 P.M." The fact is - you need to vote well prior to August 8 because the ballot is due in Washington State by 4PM on August 8 and Eastern Daylight Time at that. Maybe I missed it, perhaps lost in the profitable endless outside advertising that seems to be the primary focus, but there is zero mention of a drop box in the police station for returning board election ballots. |
