Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Boardroom Replacement? Msg# 1193238

but I still would be careful automatically agreeing to this new capital expenditure, not anticipated or budgeted.
David, the plan is to budget this year and build the next. Same as the fire department Also, you seem to think the 4 or 5 million for the fire department is in OPA reserves. It is not. The existing land and firehouse is owned by the fire department, not OPA. The fire department is a private corporation and OPA contracts with that corporation. I believe the fire department construction will require the fd to turn over ownership of the property to OPA. As for future expenditures, there is a reserve study on the OPA web site. A half million is still nothing to sneeze at. Or the board can just add $70 to the assessment for one year. That makes no sense to me. Let’s see what the GM has to say. His track record on this stuff is nothing short of remarkable. If he opposes, I may rethink. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I agree that a dedicated board room is ideal Joe, but I still would be careful automatically agreeing to this new capital expenditure, not anticipated or budgeted. At minimum I’d like to see that all projects to be covered in future years by that $18 million reserve fund are still covered. I’m thinking the new fire house, possible renovations to the beach club, drainage, bulkheads, all those leaking sewer vacuum tanks, etc. Probably a chart somewhere that lists all the future expenditure/new revenue from assessments for the next 5-10 years! After all, I still remember the days when half a million was nothing to sneeze at! |
