Susan and I were very saddened to learn of the death of Ron Fisher. Capt. Ron was a friend of many years and a fixture in and around the Ocean Pines community. Without reservation he gave of his talents and expertise, always with a soft voice and kind word.
He was instrumental in the creation of the Worcester County Veterans Memorial in Ocean Pines, serving on the board for many years. During a challenging period in the history of the Ocean Pines Area Chamber of Commerce during the early 2000s, he brought stability, credibility and outreach, serving on the Board of Directors and as President of the organization. He shared his love of fishing with many thousands of readers over many years with his monthly "Fish Tales" column in The Courier. Many years ago, I went fishing on his boat. We didn't catch anything but we had wonderful time. It was an afternoon I've not forgotten. For many years, he and I were part of a group that each week got together for breakfast, first at Denovo's and later at the Country Club. We sat next to each other and he would show me pictures of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud of his family. And he had every reason to be. He knew my youngest son and often asked how he was doing. He genuinely took an interest in his career and success. Ron never left breakfast without telling a corny joke. This is one that I remember: What did the salmon say when he hit a concrete wall? ... Dam! Ron was gifted, talented, humble and genuine. He leaves a lasting legacy with all of us who knew him. Susan's and my thoughts are with Shirl and her family during this difficult time. Fish On! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am sad to report that my long-time good friend Ron Fisher passed away yesterday. Ron most recently was the Dock Master at the Ocean Pines Marina. Ron was a past president of the Ocean Pines Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid fisherman, known as Captain Ron. He was a great advocate for our wonderful community of Ocean Pines. Ron was a member of a breakfast group meeting every Friday morning and always had a few one-liner jokes to tell. I will miss him. May he rest in peace. More details as they are received.
