Good point. Are homeowners ok with subsidizing an extra $63 for my convenience to use my credit card to pay for my assessment and memberships? Does Ocean Pines save $63 in other administrative costs because it is easier to process my credit card payment versus my check? This would be a costly change for OPA and I see no reason for it.
On another note, I've been arguing since 2017 that OPA should also have a minimum credit card amount of at least $10.00. Charging a $2.00 ice cream at the pools is not financially advantageous to OPA. I expect there will be little public comment regarding this drastic policy change as the vast majority of homeowners know nothing about it because there was only 3 days' notice for those that were actually paying attention. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If 8000 owners decide to pay via CC then the potential operational expense is around $240,000! Here is another wrinkle if I've got this right. When I pay my annual assessment, I include annual swim membership. So, instead of paying $850 this past April, I paid an additional $575 for the swim membership for a total $1,425. Assuming rates don't change, will I be able to pay all $1,425 by credit card without the 3% fee in April 2025? If yes, won't OPA have to absorb the 3% fee on my additional $575? These annual membership dues, generally paid at the same time as assessments, are not insignificant. Racquet sports is around $120,000. Aquatics around $350,000. Golf around $180,000. Beach parking around $500,000. |
