I was also the recipient of the smaller can with a warped top. The opening caused by the front part of the can being warped upward is about 1 1/2". Not a crisis but enough to allow critters to get in or a strong wind to blow it open. Since we will have this can for some time to come it was not something we wanted to worry about. I called Republic for a replacement and was told by a nice lady that they were aware of the issue and had been told by the manufacturer that if we waited a couple of days it would correct by itself and return to the normal position.   I said it was not a crisis and had no problem waiting a couple of days for the top to return to its proper position and will continue to use my large can in the meantime but don't be surprised when I call back in a week.
