For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: OK One more time. The OPA board wanted MMU sold to the County because they believed they would be better off when the utility was run by the government than by a company that paid taxes. Because the County doesn't have the expense of paying taxes, it will keep rates lower. And I said, a company has to go before a commission to raise rates which I had just done and been opposed by the board president among others who attended the hearing in Annapolis. Even though I could show that the company had not made a profit and couldn't afford to make the holding tanks and treatment plant upgrades on its own. So I sold it to the County who promptly raised rates. Who, I said, is going to hold the County to account for its operation and rates?? They don't have to answer to a Public Service Commission. Do you just start a petition among the rate payers? Steep hill. I said all this in a previous post a month ago. 3/18 #1222427 |
