Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Community Center Contract Msg# 387906

what the membership said they wanted in the first place. Your correct but remember nearly as many members didn't want it. What really bothers me know is how different this building will be from what was originally proposed. We started with a stage, commercial kitchen and gym now we have no stage (to be built in the future), no commercial kitchen and a tile floor open room. This project is far too much work for one man. Selling the lots should have been handled by one BOD member, the commercial land by another and the whole CC project should have been put on hold when the board found out that our potential choice for a GM built a CC at his last job. Sorry Bob didn't mean to ramble on! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You have a responsibly to be non bias in your reporting. The forum isn't reporting...it is where I am free to express my personal opinion...I understand the difference. As to reporting the costs...I would strive to report reliable information...something difficult to obtain in the present climate...there is too much spin coming from every side...and I will not knowingly become a "Spin Meister" for anyone. In this case you report what is stated and attribute to the source...people are free to draw their own conclusion as to validity. At some point I sincerely hope the infighting and secrecy will cease...someone will publish some solid numbers instead of speculation or best guess...and the membership will finally get a handle on what the end cost on this darn thing will be. Your pressure to find a valid answer regarding the total cost is well placed and a service to the membership...but the questions surrounding the cost are not a license to throw out everything and drive the community center more toward your own preferences as to location and size. There are literally dozens of different opinions regarding what is "right"...but only one approved by the voters. The dollars are the only issue...and some reasonable increase beyond the original $3.9 million is to be expected...that was a 2005 figure and some escalation should not come as a surprise. Defining "reasonable" becomes the question. This community center has become more a battle of personalities and personal agenda...certainly not a cohesive effort by everyone to bring about what the membership said they wanted in the first place. |
