During public comments Director Reid Sterrett and board candidate Dave Stevens thanked outgoing directors Dan Stachurski, Heather Cook, Glenn Duffy, and Tom Sandusky for their service to the community.
General Manager Tom Olson reported that Aquatics membership and income is down and he isn't sure why. A Sports Core pool closed for the summer might be a substantial reason for reduced income. One thing is very obvious, not many who pushed for the $1 million unbudgeted pool cover and closure of the pool for the entire summer season have put up their money as promised.
Olson also told board that based on input from an auctioneer the 19 interior lots proposed for sale in relation to the Community Center project may not be worth anything near what the board told lot owners during the lead up to the referendum in 2005, or even as recently as the period prior to the most recent referendum that failed.
OPA has been suggesting nine of the lots previously placed on the market were worth $150,000 each. No offers were ever received over a period of many months. Olson said a number of the 19 lots might be worth only about one half to three quarters of what OPA originally anticipated.
Surprisingly, Heather Cook, a board member who originally touted the lot sale income as covering about half the cost of the proposed Community Center, made a statement at the board meeting that she would not be surprised if some of the lots never sell.
Short of some emergency meeting, this was the final meeting of this Board of Directors. Four new board members will be elected at the Annual Meeting on August 11.
