The Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines received the 2nd annual “William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award.” The award was presented by State Comptroller Peter Franchot to Foundation President Marie Gilmore, representing the Board of Directors of the Veterans Memorial Foundation. This award, created two years ago in memory of former Governor and State Comptroller William Donald Schaefer, “ to honor those citizens or organizations who have made an impact on their County by improving their community, solving a citizen problem, aiding the most vulnerable or creating a public/private partnership to improve the lives of Marylanders.”
The Veterans Memorial Foundation was singled out for its commitment to remembering and honoring the sacrifices of veterans through its Educational Outreach program.
