10/17/2007 Robert B. Adair dies Robert B. Adair of Ocean Pines passed away in the early evening hours of October 13, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital while surrounded by his family. He was 69 years old. Even in his final hours he inspired others with his strength and dignity while fighting the devastating effects of ALS. Bob was born in Philadelphia. He graduated from LaSalle College and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. He retired as a Colonel in 1987. He received a Masters Degree from Niagara University and is a graduate of the Army War College. He taught at the United States Air Force Academy and served two tours in Vietnam. Following retirement he helped start MPRI, taught at Wor-Wic Community College and helped launch The Courier as its first editor. Bob married Mary Novak in 1960. They moved to Ocean Pines, MD in 1989. Bob is survived by his wife, their four children: Nancy Smith and her husband Chris; Robert Adair, Jr.: Susan E. Bertino and her husband Chip; and, James M. Adair and his wife Kimberlee. There are ten grandchildren: Rebecca Soles and her husband Timothy; Kyle, Meghan and Craig Smith, Caden, Matthew and Nicholas Bertino; and Brianna, Jonathan and Rachel Adair. Bob was devoted to his family. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, golfing, woodworking, reading and watching John Wayne movies. He was a respected member of the community. A viewing will be held Friday, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin, MD. A funeral service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Saturday, October 20 at noon with a viewing preceding at 11 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery on December 20, 2007 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter at 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
