amen brother with respect to the mean-spirited nature of some of the denizens here.....i can't imagine what motivates people to rub lincoln's face off each & every penny before letting it go..... two things come to mind right away...... 1. i can remember when they used to do the cordon bleu cheeseburger with fries at the yacht club for a $1.95 i think....it was a special thing at lunchtime during the summer......there was a line all the way to the parking lot to get those babies......you had to camp out as if trying to get tickets for the final lord of the rings movie..... 2. my one shot on the b&f committee garnered some insights as to how people viewed their golf membership.....we wereable to get some of the course figures with respect to how many plays some people were getting for their membership fee.....we figured out that some people (not a big number) were playing so much that each round cost them $.80....at that time we were trying to suggest some modest changes to raise the revenue for the amenity a little.....from the hue & cry that was raised you would have thought we stuck a pencil in the eye of each golfing governor.....things don't seem to have changed much..... one thing for certain, when marty has taken his stand on an issue, he sticks with it.....i like that..... |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: After I left the Yacht Club and it's "hijinks"on Sat. I went to DeNovo to pick something up for dinner(no fine dining at the YC). There on the front door is a letter to the patrons---- please don't bring your own food or drink into the restaurant. The management confirmed that people have been trying to do that, recently. When I first arrived here in 1985, I quickly became aware of a tight-fisted, meanspirited strain running through this community that I hadn't experienced before. I chalked it up to the sewer moratorium, the Choptank power failures and the many depression era survivors that lived here at the time (and that I could understand.) But it persists. First the guy obviously upset because Clarke is threatening his cut-rate play anytime subsidized golf and then the unprecedented letter on a restaurant door: please let us sell you our food in our restaurant. I'm beginning to think that the man from the TV show you referenced could only draw a crowd if he promised to give the food away. |
