What is definitely needed is someone with the authority (and expertise) who can update any part of the site at any time without having to go through a third party, even internals to management who might be responsible for particular sections of the site. Things happen or don't happen and someone needs to be able to fix them quickly. Correct. The issue is only partly about technology. Regardless of the web site design, effective use often boils down to human decisions about policy on who gets what level of access and decision making authority. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: "... I believe OPA is large enough to have a custom, database-driven web site, and it should be on an in-house server. With any site, custom or cookie-cutter, it only has value if someone is keeping it up to date on almost a daily basis." Totally agree on what is needed and that there has to be someone responsible for making sure it's up to date (not necessarily daily... depends on the content). What is definitely needed is someone with the authority (and expertise) who can update any part of the site at any time without having to go through a third party, even internals to management who might be responsible for particular sections of the site. Things happen or don't happen and someone needs to be able to fix them quickly. A style guide would be nice as well. |
