Your Safeway comparison is interesting. Would you extend the idea of OPA spending money to bnefit ther community to every aspect and interest group in the community? Can the losses be avoided, and if so, How!! Management is the problem -- board and GM. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, no REAL company would just shrug off a loss on some particular departments just because there was no overall loss. I remember many years ago when the Wash. Post reported that a Safeway store was opening in riot torn N.E Wash. D.C Safeway understood that the store was going to lose money but the store would help the community. I would think that tax benefits and other profit making safeway stores picked up the loss from that store, thus still making the business as a whole profitable, just not as profitable. Let me ask, if a $200,000 operation loss on the YC is acceptable, is a $400,000 loss acceptable? I don't believe any loss is acceptable "If it can be avoided" and I think that is the big question here in OP. Can the losses be avoided, and if so, How!! Robert. |
