It would be interesting to see a poll on what would be an acceptable loss. It might be tricky to word such a poll so as to get a decent answer. On the other hand, it might be a waste of time. I would guess that most folks would draw the line at about $200,000. The golf course expenses would be the most likely to get thumbs down. The losses at the YC may have acceptance as I would think more OP'ers use it than play golf in OP. I can no longer play golf but I understand the enjoyment, friendly chatter and communicating with nature. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, no REAL company would just shrug off a loss on some particular departments just because there was no overall loss. I remember many years ago when the Wash. Post reported that a Safeway store was opening in riot torn N.E Wash. D.C Safeway understood that the store was going to lose money but the store would help the community. I would think that tax benefits and other profit making safeway stores picked up the loss from that store, thus still making the business as a whole profitable, just not as profitable. Let me ask, if a $200,000 operation loss on the YC is acceptable, is a $400,000 loss acceptable? I don't believe any loss is acceptable "If it can be avoided" and I think that is the big question here in OP. Can the losses be avoided, and if so, How!! Robert. |
