The problem with expecting the politicians in Washington to really accomplish anything is that they would have to compromise and negotiate. That would occasionally entail taking unpopular positions that might endanger their re election.
I've said for years that this country needs more statesmen and fewer politicians. As a matter of fact, the first time I said it, it was to Jim Barrett who had taken what I thought was a wimpy position on a matter before the county commisioners. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In the meantime, is anybody watching the store?? It reminds me of our Federal government who always seem to find some side issues, irrelevant to most of the electorate, and then spend oodles of time discussing them. If they would spend as much time and effort on relevant issues just think how many meaningful things could get done. |
