A plumber was recently under my house and was surprised how dry it was. The Nat'l Home Builders Assoc told me to keep those vents closed, they aren't necessary and that the code should be changed.
The business of whether to have the crawl space closed up and become part of the conditioned home space has always been confusing to me. It was not that long ago that a major home builder [possibly Centex] was sued after closing up the new home spaces in our area due to mold. On the other hand I have a booklet that I was given at the home show titled "Crawl Space Science" that makes a good case for closing in the space but it comes with at least a $10,000 price tag to do everything suggested. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: A plumber was recently under my house and was surprised how dry it was. The Nat'l Home Builders Assoc told me to keep those vents closed, they aren't necessary and that the code should be changed. |
