Section 5: OPA Board Subject: COPE Golf Petition? Msg# 878833

It has been very interesting reading the overwhelming support on the forum for the conversion of the golf course to open parkland.
I'd say support is far from overwhelming. I wonder what the demographics of the forum are in relation to the community as a whole. I have no way to know exactly. I also wonder how many part time owners even bother to keep up with issues of the day in OP. I'm fairly confident many more part-timers keep up with the forum than attend or see board meetings, or even local papers. I feel it would be a shame to abandon the golf course and lose this amenity. The opposite side of that coin is the community would gain a much more valuable amenity to the entire community. It would also be interesting to see if the question did go to referendum, how many people would take the time and show enough interest to cast a vote. I'll hazard a guess, and say the voting percentage would be higher than in any referendum or election to date. A low turnout would indicate little concern either way, not exactly a big win for whatever side won. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It has been very interesting reading the overwhelming support on the forum for the conversion of the golf course to open parkland. I am not a proponent of wasteful spending and mismanagement and have been under the opinion that an HOA should not be in the food service industry or the golf business. That does not mean that I want the YC and Golf Course closed. I do believe, however, that an annual assessment under $80/month for all of the amenities that we are offered to enjoy is very reasonable. I feel it would be a shame to abandon the golf course and lose this amenity. It would also be interesting to see if the question did go to referendum, how many people would take the time and show enough interest to cast a vote. I guess only time will tell. John |
