For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In the 25+ years I've been here I've watched the perception of Steen move from hated developer to respected developer. He never deserved the former and I'm happy that he is finally getting the respect he deserves for his contributions to the community. Times are much different than they were 20 years or more ago. Back then development was THE issue among association members. Development is really no longer an issue, since OPA is, as a practical matter built-out. I had some issues with Steen's development activity years ago. However, I realized then, as I do now, that ultimately any developer is in business to make money. A developer is also bound by things like zoning, some limited control by the board, and other various issues. I see no point in extensively rehashing those issues now. There is near absolute certainty any relatively large scale development is going to create friction between current residents and the developer involved. Surely you realize that more than I. I've always respected Marvin, even when disagreeing on some specific issue in the past. I'd like to think the respect is mutual. |
