Back in 2007 we were the first state energy grant made in Worcester County. I estimate we save $300 per year over the previous LP-fueled water heating system.
Can you share the upfront cost, preferably before and after government subsidy? Also, any maintenance costs or expected maintenance costs over time. As you might surmise, I'm trying to get a handle on overall cost benefit, if any, over time. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The solar hot water system works great! Anytime the sun is bright we generate lots of 130+F water. Dish washing and laundry units get run on sunny afternoons for little or no expense. We do get some space heating from solar-heated hot water as a bonus. I expect the real question is about cost-efficiency of the system and that is more difficult to quantify. Certainly we spend less on heating hot water and we get some space heating benefits on days like today (bright sun makes hot water regardless of temp and winds). We put this system in using state and federal incentives and those made the system affordable. Back in 2007 we were the first state energy grant made in Worcester County. I estimate we save $300 per year over the previous LP-fueled water heating system. We are very pleased with the system. |
