That said, it is not even 1/2 of what we were spending when we were getting the pass through gasoline tax money, and that amount never covered all of our costs necessary road and drainage maintenance.
A distinction must be made between costs to pave roads and the cost of drainage. OPA now has two full-time employees and a very expensive piece of equipment dedicated to drainage. This is a result of the budget passed last year. Thompson's initial budget last year was looking to hire four new fulltime people for ditches. I asked him then why he was placing these positions in the budget. His reply was essentially that he was doing so just to get the board off his back about drainage. In my view the road paving can be maintained with the casino funds of about $250,000 per year assuming a 15-year resurfacing program, up from the Dan Stachurski level of 10-years. That was set because so much money was coming in we had to repave every 10 years to spend all the money. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Harold: All of the casino impact money is earmarked for our road infrastructure. That said, it is not even 1/2 of what we were spending when we were getting the pass through gasoline tax money, and that amount never covered all of our costs necessary road and drainage maintenance.
