Joe, I know I posted this information before but I'll do so again for what it might be worth to folks concerned about LU.
A close personal friend of mine is very involved in the golf world, among other things he writes for one of the major golf magazines and works for a company that owns Sea Pines among several other primo properties as well as the AMF golf equipment line. He said last year that Casper was the worst possible manager we could have hired and told me a month ago that Landscapes Unlimited was hands down the absolute best choice we could have made to manage the course. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: There was a whole lot of angst and defensive responses and “who are you to question me” in Board’s reaction and frankly, that is a normal reaction. Where can I find the reaction you mention above? Casper had previously reported to the board through the general manager. You should read the original contract with Casper. It provided for monthly reports by Casper to the board on their marketing efforts. Casper's management of the golf course coincides with the arrival of Thompson as GM and Terry as president -- for four years. Maybe Casper complied with the reporting but I can't recall them doing so at a meeting. Communication about what was happening on the golf course was second hand, from the GM to the board. I clearly recall the GM's yearly "excited" monologue about golf financial prospects, about how things were really turning around. Casper never came close to meeting the budgets they set working with the GM. Never. A year ago golfers were moaning about Capser. What's changed? Well, the golfers say the course is in the best shape ever. Is anyone surprised? We put $1 million into greens, did major fairway work and the weather last year was the best for grass in the last 100 years. Your may not be aware of it, but I spoke in public comments on several occasions leading up to the board vote to select Landscapes Unlimited. I urged the board to give Casper one more year. However, after the vote I suggested all get behind Landscapes Unlimited for the good of the entire community. |
