At one point I had an original Chrysler 300, 1955 vintage.
In my teenage years my Dad had a 1957 Chrysler Imperial, 2 door without air conditioning. When my parents went on a company convention I would take off the front hub caps and take out the Imperial to drag race on the back roads. It had a Hemi with push button transmission. I would, in quick sequence, floor it in neutral and then push 1 . Not sure why I never dropped the transmission. The car was built like a tank and in fact many demolition derbies banned Imperials for that reason. It was also the first American car to have curved side glass. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: That puppy only gets 24 MPG when the engine is OFF! To run it full out he will need more gas than his tanker can carry. Back in the day out in West Texas (Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TX) you could run as fast as you wanted on US 90 heading to El Paso. At one point I had an original Chrysler 300, 1955 vintage. I had it wide open on Rt 90 and I was passed by a Texas Highway Patrol in a Hudson Hornet with "twin H power", do you remember them, won the Pan Am race many years in the late 40's and early 50's? |
