Ever been to the Studebaker museum out in South Bend? Very impressive collection of cars and trucks as well as the wagons that got the company started | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It was, and is, a very reliable transmission. Not in my case. My 53 Studebaker was not shifting properly. I remember having the Kitzmiller transmission guy from Wilkes Barre riding along with me because I could not feel a second shift. He had a tachometer hooked up and thought it MAY have been shifting. It wasn't however and myself and a friend found a derelict Studebaker along the road, paid the owner $50, removed the transmisssion and hauled it to a customer of my Dads who had a small auto repair business and asked if we could borrow his transmission jack and switch trannys. [yes we were idiots]. Andrea and I were scheduled to drive to the New York Worlds fair the next day. We swapped trannys and I still remember that sinking feeling when going for a test ride and still NO shift. We took the Greyhound bus to NY.On return I traded the 53 on that 56 Hawk. Just could not stay away from Studebakers I guess. |
