Surprisingly, the last of that model pictured by Jack in '08 is still in operation.
Unfortunately the subway cars have not proved as hardy as artificial reefs. Apparently, while they are aluminum sided, the support structures were not and they have collapsed on the ocean bottom. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm a bit of a NYC subway nut having ridden in them since my high school freshman days. It's good to see that picture again on the home page scroll. Surprisingly, the last of that model pictured by Jack in '08 is still in operation. I rode in one last week. Image below from Jack Barnes - Image Title: photos Image Info: A barge of subway cars from New York City will be sunk off Ocean City to form a artificial reef. The cars cost $600 each and two were donated from funds raised by the Atlantic Coast Chapter of the Maryland Sportfishermen's Asociation and the Ocean Pines Anglers Club. The first subway cars will be sunk at the Jackspot about 21 miles southeast of Ocean City inlet. |
