Finally, I am confused as to the existence of a comprehensive plan. Is there one. Does it provide a road map for the next 10 to 15 years?
OPA has made much fanfare of working on a Comprehensive Plan. Tom Terry became president in 2011 and started a new invigorated Comp plan committee. It worked for three or four years and accomplished nothing. Now OPA has hired some guy out of Salisbury University who will work a Weegie board on the available government census reports and databases of what people buy at Walmart, etc. to tell us what we should do. He says he will talk to the important people in OP to determine what needs to be done. All pure nonsense. Comprehensive Plans are generally used to control development, typically via zoning. We have little or no land to develop and the subdivision is built-out. What we do need is a decent maintenance plan for our facilities and other infrastructure. We are worrying about 30 years down the road while chunks of concrete are dropping on boats going under canal bridges. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I was able to attend the candidates forum. As a new resident in OP this was my first exposure to the candidate process/ get acquainted session. From my perspective, the format did not help me to really make an informed decision as to who to vote for. I have read candidate info (provided by them), and read posts on this forum. It felt as thought the controlled approach with no time for questions from the audience was least helpful to a person who wants to vote. The apparent dysfunction of the current Board and the GM is a major concern. Cooperation among all board members and the GM for the good of the residents is a baseline minimum in my mind. It was unclear after the forum whether the relationships are broken. Some suggested it was a big issue, others said the board/GM are working well together. If candidates who have served before want to be reelected I would really like to hear them address issues related to their previous tenure...what did they accomplish, what were encumbrances to accomplishing what they wanted to accomplish. Finally, I am confused as to the existence of a comprehensive plan. Is there one. Does it provide a road map for the next 10 to 15 years? |
