Sorry Larry - Never said it was too hard for me, I still manage the mid 70s from the whites. And I started playing during WW-II. I agree its a great course but the tee placements have little to do with that. I love to see the "beer for breakfast" bunch show up and go to the tips and then look for their lost balls in the trees for a half hour or so on many holes. Men, as a rule, live by the motto that the older they get, the better they were and won't play from the age/skill appropriate tees. There's a reason that courses like Eagles, Rum Point, Lighthouse are so open, it makes play much faster.
I just haven't seen any indication that our BoD and GM have any of the skill set needed to turn this around. I'll stick by my statement that golf has seen its glory days. The coming generations have other interest and we seem to think they are like us or the way we think we were. If it were designated as a natural wetlands, there wouldn't be lot of maintenance needed or allowed |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Bob, Sorry Bob but I have played Bay Club several times and it has been in bad shape every time. It's a shame you feel OP is to hard. It is a great course and is challenging to play. The reason hey have various tee locations is to accommodation different aged golfers whose skills have deteriorated. I think the elks group that you refer to plays all the local courses and at a deep discount. The close the golf course crowd forgets that the course will need to be maintained if converted into a park. And those of you who think goats or sheep are the answer should wake up. Our goal should be to improve the management of the course to either break even or make a profit, not to shut it down. Larry |
