Jay I too had the same questions when I moved here. I also asked these questions here on the forum, and was greeted with sarcasm. But that's water under the bridge.
You get what you got for your fees. You are also paying for the upkeep for all the amenities that you don't use without being a fee paid member. These amenities were poorly maintained thru the early years and now the new home owners as well as the oldest are paying the price. When I asked about the member fees I was asked why did you move to a community riddled with amenities someone has to pay for maintenance. My response was and is , I have lived in 2 other communities with amenities and they were included with HOA fees, and if you did not use them there was a different fee structure for property upkeep, such as it is for canal home owners here. I took it upon myself to call four other communities that have amenities all four said amenities are included in fees. This was 11 years ago mind you, and our fees have doubled since then. Sorry for the long explanation, I'm sure you will get other responses. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm disappointed in myself for not knowing, but other than that time they came and picked up the leaves that i raked to the road and paying for the police force where do my HOA fees go or what do they entitle me to? Correct me if I'm wrong but HOA fees do not get me access to the dog park, pickleball, swimming and things of that nature. |
