"Is Dave correct? If so, then just color me more confused on this issue."
Joe, Color many people confused on this issue. A slim majority of members on the Board approved of a motion with no definition of scope or detail of the project nor of the cost factor involved. To approve any project and allocate association funds without knowing exactly what is in fact going to be done is fiscally irresponsible to our membership. I tried to make my thoughts very clear on this matter at the last Board meeting. As for Mr. Stevens allegation that "Mr. Herrick's proposal is a farce" and "if you (I take that as referring back to me) are going to that seriously why would you clear space to put it somewhere else?" My motion was to amend Mr. Terry's motion by providing Pickle Ball and Platform courts requested by their respective membership's as a reasonable alternative to the Manklin Creek Project. The Playground project should be a separate issue in my opinion. The Board majority approved going ahead with part of Phase 1 of the Manklin Creek Project which includes moving the playground for (as they reasoned) possible (hopeful) use of the area for future board's to consider. I as you know, did not vote to clear this space to move the playground. Mr. Terry's amendment to my motion then passed by a 6-1 vote, which Mr. Stevens, by the way, approved. Tom Herrick |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Below is what director Dave Stevens wrote after the meeting.. Is Dave correct? If so, then just color me even more confused on this issue. For $150,000 we do not even see the playground moved? As for his comment about the Herrick motion at the end of the meeting, Stevens is likely correct. How could Herrick's motion to look into using existing tennis courts for pickleball be taken seriously by the GM when Terry, Renaud, Cordwell, and Jacobs had just voted to spend $150,000 to prepare land for new pickleball courts? The Stevens email is below: “What the Board approved today” “The Board approved, at a cost not to exceed $150,000, the site preparation and storm water management mitigation actions that will enable the construction of eight pickle ball courts in the playground area, the consequent relocation of the playground and the changes to the parking lot and fencing for the playground /community gardens. "What was not approved with this proposal was the construction of any pickle ball courts or the movement and renovation of the playground. "The two additional platform tennis courts that have been requested and approved by the Board for years are also not a consideration. "What we have to show for this vote is the preparation for a $750,000 complex. No playground. No platform tennis. No pickle ball. "Why exactly is this preparation necessary? "We have a proposal for pickle ball and platform that are low impact with regard to storm water management (SWM) and do not require clearing, cutting trees or movement of the playground. "Consequently the playground can be rebuilt in place without significant SWM mitigation measures. "If we don’t know what we will get for this or why, we also do not know what this preparation work will cost. We have from the GM an explanation that could be called charitably, a guess. "As to Tom Herrick’s proposal, the ‘feel good’ motion to investigate it is a bit of a farce. "If you are going to take that seriously why would you clear the space to put it somewhere else?” |
