Your idea to hire an internal auditor has some merit. The question wants to be if it needs to be a full time position. Initially the work load might be heavy but I think within a year there would be less in depth auditing of systems. I can tell you from first hand experience their is a tendency for even leadership positions to look the other way on long standing practices that may not be best practices. Change is hard for this community to accept and it follows through to the business management of OPA.
Nate Thanks for supporting the idea of adding an internal auditor to the OP staff. To repeat what I mentioned earlier: ---- "For an organization like OP which experienced funds disappearing from its petty cash, and from its bank deposits what more signals do we need that an internal auditor would be quite appropriate." "Those are the "known" losses. And they could represent the tip of an iceberg. Statistically about 90% of an iceberg is unseen, underwater." Thanks for continuing to express your views aimed at achieving improvements in this community. Despite the hand that you've been dealt. Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Your idea to hire an internal auditor has some merit. The question wants to be if it needs to be a full time position. Also thanks for the nod to the political smackdown that I found myself in the middle of and ultimately became the scapegoat. It is nice that board members can acknowledge that they can do things better and differently next time. I for one never even was given a reason for the boards action... For the record while I was working more hours than budgeted, there was a lot of expectations but at no time was I considered a full-time employee. There are professionals that can bring a lot to the table on a part-time basis. The issue of having in house legal counsel could be satisfied via a PT professional. There are many who like myself who want less than a full-time commitment. And for the record I am confident that I saved the Association the value of my wages if not more during my ten month tenure. |
