The closest I ever came to owning similar (not rebuilding) was when I planned a vacation to Europe in the late 60s. I was going to need transportation for a month, anyway, so I decided to order an MGB to drive around Europe and bring back with me to the States. The lower price overseas, the savings over a car rental plus reduced duty, because it would be a used car, made it financially attractive to me. So I order it with the assurance that it would be ready when I arrived, planned my itinerary, scheduled my flight, and off I went. As it turned out, the factory was not able to deliver it on time, so I never owned a British sports car. I did have a 280Z a few years later, but not the same as having one of those small, rag top roadsters.
